WW40603 — Mobile Video Communications Transcoding

Imagine a world in which you communicate through video with your peers, colleagues, friends or family, or share video clips with them, via your mobile phone, portable media player or laptop computer, on the fly, via a broadband wireless subscriber connection. Imagine doing all this seamlessly, without having to worry about incompatible video formats, different screen resolutions or bit rates that different devices are limited to. It is not difficult to imagine how such communications infrastructure fundamentally changes and enhances our daily lives.
We don’t make it, but we help make it better
W&W Communications does not make mobile video communications infrastructure products, but we make the video transcoders, transraters and transsizers that make it possible for these systems to:
- Convert between video formats, bit rates and screen resolutions on the fly,
- Deliver the highest possible channel densities, and
- Deliver the lowest possible power dissipation per channel.
The conversion efficiency results in channel densities equal to theoretical channel densities achievable on the implementation platform and drastically lowers the capex and opex associated with IMS gateway and streaming server infrastructure equipment. The efficiency of our transcoders, transraters and transsizers allow Telecom equipment manufacturers to built IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) equipment with breakthrough price/performance ratios.
Turbo-charged transcoding for mobile telephony networks
The WW40603 transcoder/transrater/transsizer DSP software suite handles video transcoding between H.264 Baseline Profile and H.263+ or MPEG-4 SP, as well as between H.263+ and MPEG-4 SP. These are all video formats preferred by mobile phone network operators. The suite can perform any mix of the three operations and runs on the powerful, yet low power Freescale MSC8122 and MSC8144 network media processors and achieves the maximum theoretical channel densities possible on these processors. At 70,000 QCIF channels for H.263+/MPEG-4 SP transcoding and 35,000 QCIF channels for H.264 BP transcoding in a 12Ux96HPx385mm AdvancedTCA chassis, the WW40603 truly turbo-charges video transcoding in mobile telephony communications networks.
